It’s perfectly fine to be in love with a fictional character, and it’s a common phenomenon, specially for readers. Fictional characters are perfect, and the fact that we can look straight through them is fantastic, this includes their thought process and personality.

The appeal of fictional characters I agree is that they’re more obvious than real people in what they mean or believe. Books, movies, anime, etc are made to be understood by the reader/viewer so have simplified characters, but in real life we try our hardest to blend in with others so hide our true selves.

Fictional characters also won’t laugh at you, humiliate you, or harrass you…. because they can’t… they’re not even alive. You don’t have the same bad experiences with them on the personal level as you do with real people.
