Common questions

Can I mix batteries of different ah?

Can I mix batteries of different ah?

No, you can’t connect batteries of different Ah in series with a good result. However you can connect batteries of different Ah in parallel using diodes. As stated already you should only connect batteries of same type/age/brand in series. In parallel you should use diodes to connect the batteries to the UPS.

Can you connect batteries in series with different amp hours?

You cannot connect batteries of different amp-hours in series with good results. We strongly recommend you DO NOT attempt to mix battery sizes (amp-hours) and connect together. Due to differences in battery management systems and battery cell counts, there may be a charging and voltage discrepancy between batteries.

Can I use battery with the same voltage but higher amperage?

As long as the correct voltage is used, a device will draw only the amperage it needs, meaning there will not be “too many amps”. If an incorrect voltage is used — say a higher voltage than the device is rated to accept — then yes, too many amps may be drawn and the device can be damaged.

Can I run different size batteries in parallel?

We would strongly discourage anyone from connecting batteries in series or parallel applications, if the batteries are not identical in age, size and type. Different brands of batteries can have different charging and discharging characteristics, with some accepting a charge or delivering current faster than others.

What happens if you mix batteries?

A: As chemistries and voltage vary across both battery types and brands, we recommend that you do not mix batteries. Mixing of cells can result in battery leakage and sub-optimal device performance.

What will be the output voltage of two 12V batteries connected in series?

24 volts
Two or more 12-volt batteries wired in parallel—positive to positive, negative to negative—is still a 12-volt system. Two or more 12-volt batteries wired in series—the positive terminal of one battery connected to the negative terminal of a second battery—develops 24 volts, but amperage doesn’t change.

What happens when batteries of different voltages are connected in parallel?

Now, if you connect two batteries of different voltage in parallel current will flow from the higher voltage battery to the lower one. The current will be significantly high as the internal resistance is pretty low, which can lead to a spark while connecting.

Can I use 2 different batteries in a vape?

You can use the same two married batteries in a bunch of different dual-battery mods, but they have to both charge and discharge together. Why? When you vape using a dual-battery mod, you’re essentially asking for the same thing from both batteries (not quite, but we’ll get to that).
