Can you have half a dimension?

Can you have half a dimension?

There’s no such thing as “2.5 dimensional universe”. When we talk about the “dimension of space” we’re talking about the number of completely different directions that are available, not the whole “sphere thing”.

Can dimensions be fractional?

You can think of dimension of an object X as the amount of information necessary to specify the position of a point in X. For instance, a block of wood is 3-dimensional because you need three coordinates to specify any point inside. The standard Cantor set has fractional dimension!

Can there be 1 dimension?

Yes . As per the new String theory in theoretical physics there are objects that are in one dimension. According to string theory basic sub atomic particles (protons ,neutrons, electrons that constitutes an atom ) didn’t exist. But what really exist is tiny vibrating things called string which is in 1 dimension .

Is a dimension infinite?

Yes. Each dimension is as infinite as the next. They exist together simultaneously and are all expressions of the same infinite reality. Essentially there is the infinite properties that dominate the 1st dimension and define it.

What is the fractal code?

Fractal Code is the data that makes up a Digimon and can be obtained when a Digimon is destroyed. It is also the fabric that makes up the Digital World itself, as throughout Digimon Frontier, large sections of terrain start disappearing as fractal code is drained from the world.

What is a fractal in math?

A fractal is “a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,” a property called self-similarity.

Is a picture 1D or 2D?

A 1D image is just a line, like you extract a single line out of a 2D gray scale image. A 2D image can be a grayscale or color image in layman’s parlance, though in MATLAB, a 2D color image is actually a 3D image because it has 3 2D images – one for each color plane.

How many dimensions of space can you have?

The dimensions of space are either there or not, so while you could have 4 dimensions, you couldn’t have 3.5. This entry was posted in — By the Physicist, Math. Bookmark the permalink .

How do you know if a set is d-dimensional?

Way back in the day mathematicians figured that a good way to determine the “dimensionality” of a set is to pick a point in the set, and then put progressively larger and larger spheres of radius R around it. If the number of points contained in the sphere is proportional to R d, then the set is d-dimensional.

What is the dimension of a simple geometric shape?

Any simple geometric shape formed by a line (circle, square, triangle) fills a small part of an entire plane, so its dimension cannot be 2, it must be less.

What is the highest dimension a fractal can be?

The dimension of the Mandelbrot’s boundary (picture above) is 2, which is the highest it can be, but there are more interesting (but less pretty) fractals out there with genuinely fractional dimensions, like the “Koch snowflake” which has a dimension of approximately 1.262.
