Do you need Apple Music for SharePlay?

With SharePlay, you can immediately and easily start playing the music you’re discussing. All you need to do is open the Apple Music app, find the song or album, press play, and choose to listen together – others on the call will need to Join SharePlay to hear the music.
While you can share the playlists with non-subscribers, they will only be able to play songs from that playlist that they own.
How do I share music with Apple share?
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Go to Settings.
- Tap your name, then tap Family Sharing.
- Tap Add Member.
- Enter your family member’s name or email address and follow the onscreen instructions.
- Choose whether you’d like to send an invitation via Messages or to invite them in person.
How do I play music with my friends on Apple Music?
Create a profile
- Open the Apple Music app.
- Tap Listen Now.
- In the upper-right corner of the Listen Now screen: On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap the photo icon .
- Tap See What Friends Are Listening To.
- Follow the onscreen prompts to create a username, find and follow friends, share playlists, and more.
- Tap Done.
Join a SharePlay session Note: You need to have Spotify installed on your device. When someone in the call starts a Spotify Group Session, you’ll be invited to join in SharePlay. Once you join, you can listen together in the call and control what plays in the Spotify app.
You should be able to share your playlist by choosing Menu (3 dots) > Share Playlist, when you have the playlist open. You should also see this option when long pressing the playlist you want to share from the Music app under Library > Playlists. If those options don’t work, Restart your iPhone. Cheers!
