Does the brand of camera lens matter?

The camera brand does not matter for most purposes. Or at least it shouldn’t. There are brands more adept at certain things than others, like weather sealing for example. However, for most use cases most brands are competitive or at least competent.

Is the camera important or the lens?

Camera lenses are more important than the camera they’re attached to, at least in most situations. An entry level DSLR with a great lens will take great photos while a $10,000 professional camera with a terrible lens will take terrible pictures. Here’s why.

Is it compatible? The easiest way to find out which lenses your camera will accept is to look at the indicators on lens mount on the front of your camera. Simply remove the lens from your camera by pressing the lens release button and twisting the lens anti-clockwise.
