Is the present moment infinite?

Is the present moment infinite?

Infinity is the absence of time, or is time-less—just as in the Present there is no time. Just as Infinity has no measurable size, the Present has no size. Just as Infinity has no spatial measurement, neither does the Present. There is absolutely no size, space, distance or dimension in the Present.

Can the universe be infinite in the past?

First, it’s still possible the universe is finite. The observable universe is still huge, but it has limits. That’s because we know the universe isn’t infinitely old — we know the Big Bang occurred some 13.8 billion years ago. That means that light has had “only” 13.8 billion years to travel.

Is time is infinite?

Time is not infinite or finite. Time is a numerical expression for the period between two or more repetitive events. The question is like asking if the measurement of the length of an object is infinite.

How can I be Alan Watts?

As Watts mentions, the right way of living is to be here and now and be open to receive the uniqueness of this moment. That hasn’t happened before nor will it come back to you. Remember that you live now — not in the past or the future. So be here with your entire presence.

Is the present eternal?

In order to define the sensuous life, it is usually said that it is in the moment and only in the moment. By the moment, then, is understood that abstraction from the eternal that, if it is to be the present, is a parody of it. The present is the eternal, or rather, the eternal is the present, and the present is full.

What is an infinite past with a beginning and end?

Something conceived of as the past, also as being an actual infinity of moments and has having a beginning and the present as an end is in effect an infinite past with a beginning and may therefore legitimately be called, and indeed should best be called, “an infinite past with a beginning”.

Can you reach the present in an infinite amount of time?

“If an infinite past is postulated, there’s no time in the past from which you can’t reach the present. So you can always reach the present because you have, by definition, an eternity to do so.”. To state that you can infinitely progress through time towards the present is a logical fallacy.

Is there such a thing as infinite time?

And if an infinite god can exist for no reason, so can infinite time. Yet infinite time (or even a very long but finite time preceding our Big Bang) is a vastly simpler cause than a god, having only two attributes: temporality and extension (i.e. a single, simple dimension).

Where did our initial notion of the infinite come from?

As I understand it, our initial notion of the infinite came from our sense that time is going to continue and that, therefore, it is literally not finished, i.e. in-finite, or “not complete” as some people like to put it.
