Once the Purge ends, the police go back out, and presumably arrest anyone still committing a crime. If they say a crime happened during the Purge, it’s just another poor person dead and/or crime that won’t be committed any other time during the year, and they don’t have waste resources investigating it.

What crimes are legal during the Purge?

Commencing at the siren, any and all crime, including murder, will be legal for 12 continuous hours. Weapons of class 4 and lower have been authorized for use during the Purge. All other weapons are restricted.
