What is a normal size head?
The national average is estimated to fall between 22 and 23 inches, but there is no current government data on adult head size. “A sample size — a women’s medium — is 22.5 inches. But that’s actually kind of small. I make some of my samples 23 inches.
What is a big head size?
The average size male head is 22″ 1/2 and the average size woman head is 21″ 3/4. The one size fits all (OSFA) hats stop at about 23″, so a person would find it difficult finding a hat that fits around a size 7 1/2 and above. In the hat world, head sizes over 23″ 3/8 would be considered a big head.

Causes. Many people with abnormally large heads or large skulls are healthy, but macrocephaly may be pathological. Pathologic macrocephaly may be due to megalencephaly (enlarged brain), hydrocephalus (abnormally increased cerebrospinal fluid), cranial hyperostosis (bone overgrowth), and other conditions.
