When should I use in and at?

Deciding which word you should be using comes down to a question of where.

1. “At” is used when you are at the top, bottom or end of something; at a specific address; at a general location; and at a point.
2. “In” is used in a space, small vehicle, water, neighborhood, city and country.

Where do we use preposition at?

The preposition ‘at’ is used to speak about specific locations in cities or the countryside. We often have lunch at the docks. He told me he would be at the bus stop at three o’clock.

What is the difference between on in and at?

On indicates a more specific location and time in comparison to the preposition in. At indicates a more specific time and location than on.

Are you at school or in school?

We actually use both in school and at school, for slightly different situations. Why do we use at night?

The use of the preposition “at” with “night” probably evolved from the fact that there is far less activity going at night than there is during the other periods of the day. Most people are asleep at night. Hence, night was viewed as a block of time rather than as a period of time during which things happen.
