Why should we not learn about history?
History is only a broad guide — never offers precise details or blueprints — to dealing with current and future events in life. The real lessons come from history’s negative value — in learning what to avoid — because it not only records the common mistakes many others made before us but how and why mistakes were made.
Why is it hard to learn history?
History is hard to teach. It is not a bounded field of knowledge that can be conveyed in stages and steps. It does not operate by rules or predictable patterns. It cannot be segmented into separate elements without dying.
Is history just memorization?
No, history is not about the memorization of facts. Unfortunately, that’s what most schools board want teachers to do. Feed the students facts, and then ask them to barf all of it out on the test day.

Studying history improves our decision making and judgment. History shows us models of good and responsible citizenship. History also teaches us how to learn from the mistakes of others. History helps us understand change and societal development.
